The House Abandoned Jean Badovici lived in the house until his death in 1956. After he died the house was put up for auction and was bought by a friend of Le Corbusier. The house had two subsequent owners, both of whom died by mysterious circumstances. The second of these, a Swiss doctor, decided to sell some of the villa's original contents in order to fund some badly needed repair work, leaving the house bereft of the furniture that formed such an integral part of Gray's overall design. He died a few years later, unfortunately before any of the restorations began. After his death the house remained empty and susceptible to vandals and squatters who incurred serious damage onto the already ailing edifice, leaving it in dangerously precarious shape. |
